The Crosswinds Quintet formed in 2014 and is comprised of musicians who are all collegiate professors at different universities throughout the United States.

Krista Jobson, flute

Krista Jobson serves as Assistant Professor of Flute at the University of Texas Pan American where she instructs flute, music history, and music theory, and directs the UTPA Flautistas Ensemble. In demand as an artist-clinician, Dr. Jobson has performed and given masterclasses in

AL, CA, CO, FL, GA, KS, KY, MA,MO, SC, TN,TX, and also in Australia, Germany, Japan, France, and Mexico.

She recently appeared at Converse College, Coastal Carolina University, University of Texas-San Antonio, and George Fox University, and has accepted invitations to perform at the Florida Flute Association Convention and Ohio Music Education Association Conference in 2015.

Dr. Jobson is Co-Principal Flute of the Valley Symphony Orchestra,

Principal Flute of The Trade Winds Recording Ensemble for Carl Fischer, Co-Principal Flute of the International Fellowship of Conductors, Composers, and Collaborators Ensemble (IFC3), flutist with the Crosswinds Wind Quintet and Cherry Street Flute Duo.

Recent concerto performances include solo appearances with the Valley Symphony Orchestra (Rio Grande Valley, TX), Taffelmusik (Matamoros, Mexico), Musiche Doulos (McAllen, TX), the University of Texas-Pan American Wind Ensemble, and UTPA Clarinet Orchestra (Edinburg, TX).

During the summer, Dr. Jobson serves as a faculty member at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, in Twin Lake, MI, where she has performed in solo recital, as flutist with the faculty woodwind quintet, and as

Principal Flute of the faculty wind band and orchestra.

Dr. Jobson is a co-founder of the South Texas Flute Association, a

non-profit organization established in 2011 that is dedicated to bringing quality flute instruction, performance opportunities, and concerts to southern Texas.

 

 

 

 

Heather Baldwin Killmeyer, oboe

Heather Baldwin Killmeyer serves as Assistant Professor of Double Reeds at East Tennessee State

University. She previously was on the faculty at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Dr.

Killmeyer studied with Allan Vogel, Stephen Caplan, Mark Ostoich, and Brenda Schuman-Post.

An active performer, Dr. Killmeyer has explored her diverse skills and experience in a wide range of

orchestral, chamber, and solo repertoire. She has performed with a number of orchestras including the

Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Antonio Symphony, Corpus Christi Symphony, Las Vegas Philharmonic,

Reno Philharmonic, and the Knoxville Symphony. She is the oboist and artistic director of Dada Cabaret,

an experimental chamber ensemble blending eclectic contemporary art music with spoken narrative

and elements of theatre. An advocate for contemporary music, she has participated in

numerous commissions and premieres of new works for oboe.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Christopher Nichols, clarinet

Christopher Nichols serves as Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the University of Delaware where he

performs with the Del’Arte Wind Quintet, instructs applied clarinet, pedagogy and literature, and directs the University of Delaware Clarinet Ensemble. In demand as an artist clinician, he has recently appeared at the Crane School of Music at SUNY-Potsdam, Pittsburg State University, Baker University, the University of Central Missouri, University of Maryland at College Park, and the University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Nichols performs frequently with the chamber music ensemble Payton and the Pipes. Comprised of the unique combination of countertenor, flute and clarinet, this ensemble champions new music and has toured the United States with recent performances for the Great Spaces Music and Arts Series, as well as College Music Society regional conferences. Additionally, Dr. Nichols has recently accepted invitations to appear at International Clarinet Association ClarinetFests in 2013 and 2014. Live performances have been recorded for broadcast on Kansas and Michigan Public Radio.

Dr. Nichols attended the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and the Boston Conservatory. He is an active member of the College Music Society, Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Music Teachers National Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the International Clarinet Association.

Heidi Lucas, horn
Heidi Lucas is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Horn at Indiana University ofPennsylvania. She

holds degrees from the Crane School of Music-SUNY Potsdam (B.M.), the Eastman School of Music

(M.M), and the University of Georgia (D.M.A). Her orchestral experience includes the Louisiana

Philharmonic, Memphis Symphony, Lancaster Philharmonic, Aspen Festival Orchestra, Cobb Symphony

Orchestra, Columbus (GA) Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Pops Orchestra, Pensacola Symphony,

Gulf Coast Symphony, Meridian Symphony, Pensacola Opera Orchestra, Mobile Opera Orchestra, and the

Mobile Symphony. She is also principal horn of the Tradewinds, the recording ensemble for Carl

Fischer's wind band publications.

In addition to extensive teaching and chamber music experience including residencies and tours

throughout the United States, England, Brazil, Germany, Austria, Australia, and Panama,

Dr. Lucas is currently a member of the Hoodlebug Brass Quintet and IUP Faculty Wind Quintet, as well as

Eastern Standard, theCrosswinds, and the Blenheim Brass Trio. She is active in promoting new music and

has been part of commissioning projects for over 15 new works that feature the horn.

Summer teaching/performing engagements include positions with the Ash Lawn Opera Company

(Virginia), Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (Michigan), Saarburger Serenaden Music Festival (Germany), the

Alfredo Saint Malo Festival (Panama), and the International Fellowship of Conductors, Composers

and Collaborators (IFC3) in Oregon.

Dr.Lucas has performed on programs at the 2014 International Horn Symposium in London, England, 2014

International Tuba/Euphonium Conference (ITEC) in Bloomington, IN, 2013 International Horn

Symposium in Memphis, TN, 2012 International Tuba/Euphonium Conference (ITEC) in Linz, Austria,

2012 International Horn Symposium in Denton, TX, and the 2012 Mid-South Horn Workshop in Conway,

AR, as well as part of several Southeast Horn Workshops. She has had several publications, including

reviews in the Horn Call and articles in the Grove Dictionary of American Music. Dr. Lucas can be heard

on the New York Philomusica’s 2008 recording of Haydn’s L’isola Disabitata, the Keystone Winds’

upcoming album of the works of Fisher Tull, and Centaur Records’The Voice of the Coelecanth: Music of

William Bergsma,which was released in February of 2015.

 
Douglas Owens, bassoon
Douglas Owens is an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Tennessee-Martin where heteaches applied double reeds and saxophone. He holds the BME from Furman University, the MM in Performance from the University of South Carolina and the DMA in Performance from the University of Georgia. As a doctoral student, Owens was a two-time winner of the University of Georgia Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition, performing William Davis' Rhapsody for Oboe and Wind Ensemble and Mozart's Concerto for Bassoon on the same concert. Prior to arriving in Tennessee, Dr. Owens held teaching positions at Presbyterian College and at Fort Lewis College.

As a woodwind specialist, Dr. Owens has performed extensively on all five members of

the woodwind family. Owens performed the premiere of Alta Graham's Modal Suite for Baritone Saxophone and Piano at the North American Saxophone Alliance conference in Athens, GA. He has performed with the Georgia Double Reed Ensemble at International Double Reed Society conferences in Muncie, IN and in Provo, UT. He has been involved in recent commissioning projects for the composers Daniel Baldwin and Bill Douglas.

As a freelance musician, Dr. Owens has regularly performed with symphony orchestras and theaters throughout the Southeast. He has recently performed on oboe, bassoon and saxophone with the San Juan (CO/NM) and Paducah (KY) Symphony Orchestras. Dr. Owens is the featured artist on the oboe and bassoon volumes of the Sound Innovations method book series.
